Synopsis
”Den bedste mand” er historien om den legendariske danske bokser Jørgen ”Gamle” Hansen og hans kone Hanne. Da vi møder Jørgen i slutningen af 1970’erne, har de fleste dømt ham færdig i boksning. Han er bange for at gå i ringen, hans krop er slidt, og banken truer med at tage huset fra ham og hans familie. Kun én ting holder sammen på det hele. Hans elskede Hanne – manager og kone i ét. Men da Hanne beslutter, at familien Hansen skal lægge hus til promotor Mogens Palles nye afrikanske boksehåb Ayub Kalule, spirer et uventet venskab, og takket været sin nye ven og sparringspartner begynder Jørgen langsomt at genvinde troen på sig selv. Og da han stik mod alle odds tilbydes en EM-titelkamp mod den frygtindgydende englænder Dave ”Boy” Green, der kan redde både karrieren og familiens hjem, må han se sin største fjende i øjnene én gang for alle: En panisk rædsel for at bokse…
